Short Description:
The second Vienna water supply line was built in 1900. The tunnels are mad of concrete with a diameter of more than 2 m and a total length of about 170 km. A number of cracks have appeared in the some sections a long time ago and have been sealed with an appropriate treatment.
Aims of monitoring:
The evolution of the opening and shear movement of some of the cracks should be monitored over the years and during the filling and emptying of the pipe. The data is used to plan additional repair interventions.
Number of sensors:
6 Main results:
The measurements show that the cracks tend to open slowly as the time passes. This small tendency overlaps with the larger deformations due to the filling of the pipe. Shearing effects are also observed.
