The 1202 TC Assembly includes a two-channel Input Module designed to measure 1 or 2 thermocouples of Type J, K, N, or E and a Type 5 I/O Base for direct thermocouple connections. The Base includes screw terminal temperature sensing for the internal electronic thermocouple reference junction. Different thermocouple (T/C) Types can be selected for each channel.
Unlike other I/O Modules in the OutDAQ product family that report basic units of electrical measure, the 1202 TC reports temperature, in °C. Engineering unit conversions are done within the 1202 TC Module because:
- The Module is dedicated to T/C inputs, and
- The reference junction compensation and linearization methods required for accurate conversion into temperature are rigorous, and would present significant user complexity if required to be computed externally.
Thermocouple materials and behavior are well established, standardized, and documented. As a result of standardization, T/Cs of specific Types (ANSI and IEC Type definitions) are interchangeable, with a specified interchangeability error, thus allowing the Module to report temperature within predictable error bounds.
